The most interesting thing about the visuals in Busby Berkeley's works is the use of choreography as living motion graphics. As a fantasy element in his kaleidoscopic on-screen performances, he used a large number of showgirls and props. Complex dance movements and formations have created unique geometric patterns that decorate the frame. In an era where filmmaking techniques were still poor, Busby Berkeley used many tricks with rainbows to deceive the viewer's eyes, giving an idea of the number of dancers as well as the scale of the theater.
Berkeley's musical films sometimes look like a maze with exciting music and constant movement. We advise you to think of flamboyant balls in classical theaters.
